Royal W. Carson, III is the Founder, Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Carson Private Capital. Royal began his career in the energy sector in 1975, and in 1977 founded Carson Petroleum Corporation, a mid-sized oil and gas producer/operator based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma focused on acquiring proven oil and gas reserves with extensive development potential. Carson Petroleum employed over 125 people in Oklahoma and the Appalachian Basin of North Central West Virginia. In early 1982, Carson Petroleum was sold to Devon Energy (NYSE: DVN). Subsequently, Royal founded or co-founded two additional successful energy businesses in the early days of horizontal drilling, which were sold prior to founding Carson Private Capital in 1997. Royal served as an independent director of LIN Media (NYSE: LIN), and subsequently Media General (NYSE: MEG), following a merger of the two businesses, which was ultimately sold to Nexstar Media Group (NASDAQ: NXST). Royal served as a Trustee of the University of San Diego as a member of its Endowment Investment Committee, and also served as a Director of the Leeds School of Business and the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado. Additionally, Royal served on the board of Aim Truancy Solutions, as well as the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Dallas Museum of Natural History. Royal is a founder and former board member of the Roaring Fork Club (Aspen) and is a member of Preston Trail Golf Club (Dallas) and The Alotian Club (Little Rock).
