Bio

Mr. Smith is a Senior Managing Director and Chairman of Blackstone Credit's Liquid Credit Strategies (LCS). LCS invests in global investment-grade and high-yield bonds, U.S. and European corporate loans, and CLO securities through various fund structures, including separate accounts, commingled funds, CLOs, and closed-end funds. He sits on various investment committees across the LCS platform. Mr. Smith serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the firm’s NYSE–listed closed-end funds and interval fund that are managed by LCS. Prior to joining Blackstone Credit in 2005, Mr. Smith was a Managing Partner of RBC Capital Market’s Alternative Investment Unit. Before joining RBC in 2001, he was a Managing Director and Co-Head of Indosuez Capital, a division of Credit Agricole Indosuez responsible for U.S. asset management and merchant banking activities. He began his career in investment management in 1987 at Van Kampen American Capital. In this Chicago-based mutual fund company, he held various positions managing portfolios of bonds and stocks, including overseeing the firm’s family of corporate high-yield funds. Mr. Smith received a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Master’s Degree in Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.
