Bio

Rolando is a proven and creative deal professional who has helped source and execute a wide array of M&A transactions, financial restructurings and operational turnarounds for more than 15 years. He joins Birch Lake from Z Capital, a value-oriented middle market private equity firm which managed approximately $2.3 billion of assets across complementary private equity and credit businesses during his tenure. Among Rolando’s strengths are his long-standing commitment to management teams at portfolio companies and his ability to offer strategic guidance and financial analysis in support of value creation initiatives.Prior to joining Z Capital, Rolando was a member of the investment team of Chilmark Fund II, where he sourced, underwrote and executed on distressed private equity investment opportunities. Rolando also served on the advisory team at Chilmark Partners, where he collaborated with clients and colleagues to devise pragmatic solutions in complex situations and engaged with senior management and capital structure stakeholders to implement these solutions. Representative transactions include Bettencourt Dairy, ION Media, JHT Holdings, the National Football League Players Association, Nortel, Recycled Paper Greetings, The Seattle Times, SIRVA, SuperMedia and USG Corporation, among others.Rolando is an active member of the Turnaround Management Association and the Association for Corporate Growth and serves in leadership positions in several charitable and civic organizations. He graduated from the University of Chicago with Honors with an S.B. in Mathematics, an A.B. in Economics and an A.B. in Statistics. Rolando earned his M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business where he graduated first in his class.
