Roger is a former entrepreneur who invests in talented founders building innovative consumer-technology companies in sectors including e-commerce, online gaming, digital health, financial technology/blockchain and online education, among others. He has a particular focus on companies offering products and services through online marketplaces. Roger’s current consumer investments span these sectors and include Belong; Encore; Flyhomes; Forte; Gen.G; Marco Polo; Modern Health; Niantic; PlayVS; Rally; StockX; and Wag! (NASDAQ: PET). His previous, exited consumer investments are Angie’s List (NASDAQ: ANGI); Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN); Epic! (Acquired by Byju); Groupon (NASDAQ: GRPN); HotelTonight (acquired by Airbnb); SafetyWeb (acquired by Experian); Scopely (acquired by Savvy Games); Send the Trend (acquired by QVC); TrialPay (acquired by Visa); Trip.com (acquired by Ctrip); and World Golf Tour (acquired by TopGolf). Roger also has been an active investor in business-focused software companies. His previous software investments include 6Sense (acquired by Insight); BlueJeans Network (acquired by Verizon); BlueKai (acquired by Oracle); Boost Media; Cask (acquired by Google); Earnest (acquired by Navient); Entelo (acquired by SilkRoad Technology); FreeWheel (acquired by Comcast); Gainsight (acquired by Vista Equity); Insitu (acquired by Boeing); Narrative Science (acquired by Tableau); Platfora (acquired by Workday); and Vera (acquired by HelpSystems). He remains involved with business-software companies BrightEdge, Flash, Live Intent, Lotame, Narvar, PrimeRevenue and Upsight, as well as seed investment Xepelin. Before joining Battery, Roger spent 10 years as an entrepreneur and operator. He was the co-founder and president of NetMarket, an ecommerce company that executed the first retail transaction on the Internet in 1994. NetMarket was acquired by Cendant Corporation. Roger also co-founded Corio, a leading managed-service provider that went public and was later acquired by IBM. Finally, he co-founded SMART, a non-profit that provides disadvantaged students access to educational opportunities, personal experiences and social support services to foster academic excellence and access to a college education. Roger has been named to the Forbes Midas List many times. Roger graduated from Yale University and is the President of the Yale University Council.
