Partner & General Counsel
David Caplan is a Partner and the General Counsel at Atairos. Mr. Caplan joined Atairos after serving for over 20 years as a Partner at the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, where he served as the head of the firm’s Global Mergers & Acquisitions practice. At Davis Polk, Mr. Caplan advised clients on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and securities law and corporate governance matters, and led client relationships across a wide range of industries. He served as the lead corporate lawyer in a number of significant transactions, including representing Aetna in its pending acquisition of Humana, Comcast in its acquisition of NBCUniversal, Harvard University in connection with the digitization of its library collection by Google, Marsh & McLennan Companies in its sale of Putnam, PricewaterhouseCoopers in its acquisition of Booz & Co. and the principals of Sterling Equities in their purchase of 100% of the New York Mets. Mr. Caplan also served as the principal outside corporate lawyer for Comcast since 2006. Mr. Caplan is a frequent speaker at law and business schools, as well as legal and business organizations, on mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance topics. He is a member of the Board of Directors of The Orogen Group and a member of the Board of Trustees of Playwrights Horizons, one of the country’s leading not-for-profit theaters. Mr. Caplan is a graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
