Bio

Jean de Pourtales is a Managing Director at Aleph Capital Partners. Prior to joining Aleph Capital Partners, he enjoyed a 24 year career at Goldman Sachs in a variety of investing positions. He was most recently a partner in the Merchant Banking Division in London, co-Head of the European Real Estate Principal Investment Area and Global Head of Emerging Markets real estate investment. After an initial spell in the Mergers and Acquisition advisory business in London, Paris and New York, Jean joined Goldman Sachs’ Principal Investment Area at its inception in London in 1992, making a number of investments in the insurance sector and helping to start Goldman Sachs’ European mezzanine business. He joined the Real Estate Principal Investment Area in 1997 to lead the acquisition of UIC, a distressed French bank, by the Goldman Sachs Whitehall real estate funds. Over the ensuing decade, Jean built Whitehall’s French business into the leading real estate private equity franchise in that market, and oversaw the development of Archon Group in Europe, Goldman Sachs’ real estate and non-performing asset loan management subsidiary. In 2007, he moved to Asia as Global Head of Emerging Markets real estate investment, returning to London in 2010 to co-head the European Real Estate Principal Investment Area. Jean was a member of the Real Estate Principal Investment Area Investment Committee, and a member of Goldman Sachs’ Finance Committee, ASEAN Operating Committee, and European Audit and Compliance Committee. Jean received a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Merton College, Oxford University, in 1988. He is a member of the Merton College Development and Alumni Relations Committee.
