Bio

Mr. Peterschmidt was most recently CEO of Openwave Systems, a $350 million public software company providing software for data applications to the wireless phone industry, including both handset manufacturers and server side software to tier one telecommunications carriers. Prior to Openwave, he was CEO of Securify, a privately held network security software company. Previously, Mr. Peterschmidt was CEO of Inktomi, a provider of Internet search and networking caching software. Mr. Peterschmidt joined Inktomi in 1996 as its CEO and Chairman. During his tenure, Inktomi became the leading internet infrastructure software company in the world, providing search engine functionality to Yahoo, AOL, and MSN and seventy other major portals, and also offering the first large scale caching software, driving web page response times from 30 seconds to subsecond. Inktomi went public in 1998, and achieved a market cap of $17 billion by 2000. Mr. Peterschmidt remained the CEO of Inktomi until its acquisition by Yahoo in 2003 where it remains the core of Yahoo’s search capabilities. Prior to Inktomi, Mr. Peterschmidt was the EVP and COO of Sybase, where he had responsibility for all aspects of the company except the CFO’s office. He joined Sybase in 1991 before its IPO when it had $60 million in revenue and approximately six hundred employees. During his tenure, Mr. Peterschmidt led the company’s growth to nearly $1 billion in revenue and six thousand employees. Prior to Sybase, Mr. Peterschmidt was VP Sales and Marketing for Systems Industries, a public mass storage subsystem company. Previously, he spent eight years in the semiconductor distribution industry. Mr. Peterschmidt began his civilian career with EDS as one of ten “high ticket” sales executives selling large facilities management contracts. Prior to EDS, he spent ten years in the Air Force. Mr. Peterschmidt has a BS degree from the University of Missouri and an MBA from Chapman College. He is currently on the boards of directors of two public companies, Savvis and Limelight Networks.
