Bio

Rafi Mottahedeh is a partner in the Firm’s Tax Group with extensive experience advising clients on income tax matters relevant to all aspects of their business. His practice includes advising clients on fund formation and structuring, fund- and sponsor-level tax considerations arising from investments, and sponsor-level economic and tax planning and structuring. He also plans and structures other complex business transactions, including corporate mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and divestitures, finance matters, and capital markets transactions. Rafi has substantial experience working with the tax aspects of financial instruments, derivatives, commodities, and cross-border transactions. Additionally, he has assisted companies with a number of international tax issues, including Subpart F, foreign tax credit planning, FIRPTA, and treaty planning. Prior to joining Shartsis Friese, Rafi was at Jenner & Block and later worked as tax counsel at a major U.S. multinational company with over $100 billion in revenue a year. Rafi maintains an active pro bono practice helping dozens of individuals and non-profits each year. Outside of his practice, Rafi is an avid runner and triathlete.
