Dimitris Assimakis is a partner in the Global Corporate Group in Athens. He focuses on power and gas, energy infrastructure, renewable energy and clean technologies, and he advises clients on regulatory matters, M&A, project financing, and capital markets and privatisation transactions. With more than 20 years of experience, Dimitris has acted for Greek and international companies, both private and state-owned, as well as financial institutions that invest in or lend to companies operating in Greece. Dimitris studied law at the University of Athens and obtained a master's degree (LLM) from the Free University of Brussels (Vrije Universiteit Brussel). He qualified as a lawyer in 1995 and is registered with the Athens Bar Association. Previously, Dimitris worked for the European Parliament and the European Commission, as well as for a leading Greek legal practice and an international law firm in Athens. He is a member of the Athens Bar Association, the Greek Energy Lawyers Association, the Hellenic Wind Energy Association (ELETAEN) and a support member of Hellenic Association of Photovoltaic Companies (HELAPCO). Dimitris is consistently listed as one of the leading energy lawyers in Greece by major legal directories (Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500, IFLR 1000). Chambers Europe 2022 ranks Dimitris Band 1 for Energy with one client highlighting his "very strong commercial understanding of the Greek renewables sector," while another praises his responsiveness, adding that he is an "out-of-the-box thinker." In 2021 he received praise form clients who noted that he is a "highly respected practitioner" and a "real regulatory expert" who is "recognised for his great expertise", and that he provides expert handling of M&A and project finance transactions, in addition to regulatory matters. Legal 500 EMEA 2022 has ranked Dimitris on their Hall of Fame for Energy and as Leading Individual for Projects and Privatisation. According to Legal 500 “Dimitris Assimakis is regarded as one of the very best energy law practitioners in the market.” He is fluent in Greek and English, has a good knowledge of French and has a basic knowledge of Italian.
