Bio

Real Estate practice partner Nathan Fahrer represents commercial real estate clients in complex transactions involving acquisitions, dispositions, development, financings and leasing. His recent focus has been on closing several high-profile purchase, sale and financing deals for major hospitality properties, including the Loews Chicago Hotel, Conrad Chicago hotel, the Washington Marriott Georgetown and the Miami Dadeland Hotel. He has also managed the acquisition and disposition of commercial office buildings, retail shopping centers and multisite/multistate agricultural properties. Nathan represents commercial landlords and tenants in all aspects of commercial leasing, including general office, retail and industrial leasing. Known for his practical approach and focus on clients’ core business objectives, Nathan has significant experience working with CMBS special servicers on a national basis with respect to real property secured loan workouts and REO dispositions. His counsel ranges from managing loan modifications, restructurings and deeds-in-lieu of foreclosure to working with court-appointed receivers. Nathan’s background also includes a variety of real estate-related bankruptcy matters, including the sale of 50 gas stations in a “363 Sale,” which the Turnaround Management Association recognized with its 2012 Large Company Transaction of the Year Award. In several recent leasing representations, Nathan has worked with high-growth technology and internet clients in drafting and negotiating commercial leases for properties nationwide, including the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, Austin, Texas, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Seattle. Nathan is often brought in to manage the real estate portions of refinancings and acquisitions for a range of clients, including in the forest products and construction industries. He also assists high net worth clients with such real estate matters as buying, selling and leasing real property across the United States. Nathan has an active pro bono practice, has formed and secured 501(c)(3) status for numerous not-for-profit companies, and served as a head writer for the Illinois Reform Commission.
