Bio

Matthew Benson is a partner in the Litigation Group at Mahaffey Pickens Tucker, LLP. A substantial part of Mr. Benson's practice is focused on commercial litigation in which he represents banking institutions, nontraditional lenders, borrowers, and businesses. His other principal practice area is construction litigation, whereby he represents a number property owners, lenders, developers, general contractors, sub-contractors, and suppliers in various disputes involving simple and complex construction issues. Mr. Benson also drafts and reviews construction contracts and advises his clients on issues they may face during the course of a construction project. Additionally, he participates in a wide variety of general litigation matters, including business and contract litigation, landlord/tenant disputes and corporate collections. Prior to joining MPT when it was founded in 2006, Mr. Benson was an associate at Webb, Tanner & Powell, LLP, where he specialized in local government law, construction law, and commercial litigation. Mr. Benson graduated from Mercer University, magna cum laude, in 1996 and received his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, in 1999 from the University of Georgia School of Law. Mr. Benson served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Intellectual Property Law while at the University of Georgia. Mr. Benson is licensed to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia and is active involved in his community. He recently served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Jackson County Area Chamber of Commerce and sat on the Economic Development Council for Jackson County. Matt is currently a member of the Industrial Development Authority of Jackson County. Previously, Mr. Benson graduated from the Gwinnett County Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Gwinnett program in 2004, served on the Board of Directors of the J. M. Tull-Gwinnett Family YMCA for 5 years, and acted as a big brother in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, Inc. Mr. Benson resides with his wife and four sons in Jefferson.
