Bio

Yu Jin Kim is a partner at Lee & Ko specializing in Corporate, TMT (Technology, Media & Telecommunications), and Anti-trust & Competition matters. Ms. Kim's other practice areas include Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Governance, Foreign Investment, TMT Litigation, DPP (Data Protection & Privacy), DPP Litigation and Anti-trust & Competition. Ms. Kim has represented major corporations in major deals relating to her primary practice areas. In connection with M&A transactions she has successfully advised various clients, including Wallenius Lines, MTV Asia, Omnicom Group, Aegis Group, Straumann, etc. Ms. Kim has also advised clients on legal issues related to the issuance of convertible bonds in connection with an initial public offering of equity securities and the establishment and operation of an employee stock ownership association for the subsequent purchase of stock. Further Ms. Kim has successfully provided advice needed by clients competing in the rapidly changing TMT market, based on her knowledge accumulated during 20 years of practice in the TMT sector. Clients that she advised in these areas include major telecommunications company (such as, SK Tel, LG Tel), media companies (such as, MTV Networks Korea, Skylife) as well as domestic and foreign portal site operators and online marketplaces (e.g., Google, eBay). Ms. Kim is also actively involved in Anti-trust matters and has handled many Anti-trust cases related to foreign companies' filing of a business combination report with the Korean Fair Trade Commission, unfair trade practices, abuse of market-dominant position, violation of the Act on Regulation of Standardized Contract, etc. Recently Ms. Kim represented Korean Airline in an international collusion case concerning fuel surcharge and major Korean and overseas air liners in administrative proceedings before the Korean Fair Trade Commission and advising them on e-commerce regulations governing withdrawal of offers. In addition, Ms. Kim has represented numerous telecom business operators accused of providing unfair assistance and numerous home-shopping operators accused of engaging in unfair labelling and advertising. She has also represented numerous door-to-door sales business operators to determine whether they engaged in door-to-door sales under sponsorship and to provide assistance on various other matters related to door-to-door sales activities. She received LLB in law from Korea University and an LL.M at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. She is admitted to the Korean Bar and also licensed to practice law in the State of New York, U.S.A. She is a member of the product bundling review committee of the Korea Communications Commission.
