Bio

Mr. Kanach is a partner in San Francisco and his practice is focused on Intellectual Property and Commercial Litigation. Mr. Kanach has patent and trademark trial experience, as well as litigation experience related to all types of intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, trade secrets, antitrust, unfair competition (including California Business and Professions Code Section 17200 et seq. and 17500), and contract disputes. Mr. Kanach also has litigation experience related to other Lanham Act claims (e.g., likelihood of confusion for unregistered marks, false advertising, false designation of origin), cybersquatting related to domain names in both Federal court and under WIPO Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy (UDRP), and claims related to unauthorized data access (e.g., Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, California’s Comprehensive Data Access and Fraud Act). In addition to trial and litigation experience, Mr. Kanach counsels clients with respect to procurement and enforcement of intellectual property assets and performs related transactional work and contract negotiations. Mr. Kanach has represented clients in a wide range of industries including software and applications, blockchain/cryptocurrency, fitness equipment and fitness studios, semiconductors, photovoltaic inverters, particle detectors, pharmaceutical devices, food and beverages, art, craft beer, and spirits, furniture, and other consumer products and services. He is a member of the following practice groups at Gordon & Rees: Food & Beverage; Beer, Wine & Spirits; and Entertainment & Recreation Law. At the University of California-Hastings College of the Law, where Mr. Kanach obtained an Intellectual Property Concentration, his studies focused on patents, trademark prosecution, copyrights, trade secrets, intellectual property licensing, business litigation, sports, entertainment, and cyberlaw. Mr. Kanach was the Production Editor & Founding Member of the Hastings Science & Technology Law Journal. He was active in various groups, elected as the President of the Association of Communications, Sports & Entertainment Law and as a representative in student government. Mr. Kanach also played intramural basketball and was instrumental in getting a scoreboard for the basketball court in the basement of the UCHastings tower. At Georgetown University, Mr. Kanach studied business, marketing, and art. His artwork and creative writing were featured in school journals and presented in installations on campus. Mr. Kanach was an Academic All-American as a captain of the Hoyas’ lacrosse team, and he continues to play lacrosse today on a men’s club team in the Bay Area.
