Bio

Erin Rothfuss is a partner, resident in the San Francisco office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher. She is co-chair of the firm’s Real Estate Department, serves on the firm’s Compensation and Finance Committees, and previously served on the firm’s Executive Committee. Ms. Rothfuss’ practice encompasses a variety of transactional matters involving lending and structured finance, private equity, workouts and restructurings, loan sales, syndications and participations, and acquisitions and dispositions, with a particular emphasis on real estate. She represents a wide range of clients, including lenders, developers, opportunity funds, joint ventures and a variety of institutional and non-institutional investors. Her experience includes advising clients in connection with property, equity and loan transfers, construction, securitized, mezzanine and permanent financings, conduit lending, exchanges, partnership and joint venture structuring, leasing and workouts. Ms. Rothfuss advises on transactions involving all types of commercial and residential real property, including development property, office buildings, hotels, resorts, shopping centers, multi-family projects and other commercial properties. She also has significant experience with fund formation and private equity work. Ms. Rothfuss is ranked as a leading lawyer for Real Estate in California by legal directory Chambers USA, where she is recognized as “incredibly responsive, efficient and pragmatic in negotiations,” and as having “an unbelievable ability to digest a large amount of information and synthesize it into options for the business.” She received her law degree, cum laude, in 1996 from Harvard Law School, where she was a member of the Harvard Environmental Law Review and the Harvard International Law Journal. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, with high honors, in Economics and Anthropology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1993. Ms. Rothfuss is admitted to practice in New York and California, and is currently a member of Gibson Dunn’s Finance, Diversity and Associate Compensation Committees.
