Bio

Francesco Puntillo is Co-Head of the Energy and Infrastructure Department at Gianni & Origoni. He has an extensive experience in domestic and cross border mergers and acquisitions, joint venture, corporate finance, private equity transactions involving both listed and privately held companies. He has a particular expertise in transactions in highly regulated activities as well as in the infrastructure sector and in particular in the gas, electricity, transportation and healthcare sectors. Francesco has also an extensive experience in the shipping sectors in which he gained relevant expertise in shipbuilding contracts. He has a significant experience in development projects also in the context of limited and non recourse financing as well as BOT and BOOT projects. In particular, he has advised developers and lenders in several projects in the energy sector, as well as in other kind of infrastructure projects, in which he has become very familiar with EPC contracts, design contracts and O&M agreements. With particular reference to projects in the energy sector, his main recent experience includes inter alia advising in relation to the structure of transaction and corporate matters of LNG terminals project, gas storage projects, wind farms and photovoltaic plants, as well as M&A transactions involving major energy operating companies. Francesco is recognised as one of the top experts in the field from leading legal directories: he is ranked in band 1 in Chambers & Partners’ Energy & Natural Resources practice and is considered as 'Leading Individual' in the Energy area by The Legal 500. In 2021 he was awarded the “Client Choice Award” for Energy & Natural Resources in Italy. He graduated in law from University of Rome “La Sapienza” and subsequently obtained and LL.M. from Cornell University (NY) and a specialisation in corporate finance at University of Paris “La Sorbonne”. Francesco joined the Firm in 2009. Prior to join our firm, he worked as a partner for some international law firms. He speaks Italian and English.
