Bio

Rodrigo Zamora co-heads the Arbitration and leads the Civil and Commercial Litigation practices at Galicia. He has appeared before local and federal trial and appellate courts in most circuits in Mexico, including the Supreme Court, representing both plaintiffs and defendants. He has also participated in dozens of arbitrations, many of them multi-jurisdictional, both as counsel and as arbitrator, mainly before the International Chamber of Commerce, the London Court of International Arbitration, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, and the Arbitration Center of Mexico. Rodrigo has participated as an expert in Mexican law in numerous arbitrations and judicial proceedings before the courts of the United States and other nations and before arbitral tribunals (including in investor-state cases). His clients benefit from the strategies he designs in collaboration with members of the Galicia’s transactional practice (including Banking & Finance, Insurance, and M&A partners), and with other Galicia’s areas, including Regulatory, Tax, Restructuring & Insolvency, Environmental, Compliance & Investigations, and Competition & Regulated Industries. This allows our Commercial Litigation and Arbitration practice to handle complex domestic and international disputes, including class actions. His practice has also included taking on cases in order to overturn unfortunate results in prior stages of the litigation under other legal representations. Rodrigo has participated in some of the most relevant recent cases dealing with contractual, shareholders, insurance and reinsurance, infrastructure, construction and energy disputes, among many other subjects. Specifically, he has led the legal team in several litigations against Mexican government entities, including state-owned enterprises from the energy sector. He is recognized as Band 1 by The 2023 Chambers Latin American Guide in the Dispute Resolution: Arbitration practice. He is also listed by The Legal 500 2023 Latin American Guide as “Hall of Fame” in the same practice and as an expert lawyer in Dispute Resolution: Litigation team. The French publication Leaders League recognizes him as leading individual in both areas of law and Latin Lawyer considers him as an expert practitioner in the legal market in Mexico. Rodrigo is a member of the Mexican Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), the London Court of International Arbitration, the Latin American Group of the International Chamber of Commerce, the Mexican Arbitration Institute and the Mexican Energy Law Academy, among other organizations. Rodrigo has published extensively and currently lectures in several postgraduate programs. He is member of the Greener Arbitrations LAC Sub-Committee, which purpose is to promote the use of the Greener Arbitrations Protocols in Latin America and the Caribbean, as part of the Green Pledge. Rodrigo graduated from the Escuela Libre de Derecho (Mexico City) and obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from New York University. Rodrigo is authorized to practice in Mexico and New York. As a “lawyer of lawyers”, Rodrigo was the first general counsel of the Mexican Bar Association, whilst remaining active as practitioner in his previous firm. He is member of the Galicia’s Business Development Committee.
