Stephen Ballas, M&A and securities law practice focuses on advising public and private companies and their investors. Stephen has significant experience in strategic and financial-sponsor M&A and investment transactions, capital markets, SEC reporting (including for delayed filers), public company and investment firm corporate governance and compliance, internal control remediation, crisis management, internal and regulatory investigations, stock exchange listing and delisting proceedings, M&A-related US national security reviews and investor litigation. He has advised companies with global operations across multiple sectors and industries, including investment management (both private equity and hedge fund), technology, media and entertainment, aviation (both technology services and manufacturing) and maritime, satellite telecommunications and real estate services companies. He has advised SEC registrants as well as NYSE- and NASDAQ-listed companies. Before joining DLA Piper, Stephen served as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary at Global Eagle Entertainment, a NASDAQ-listed satellite-connectivity, technology and media and entertainment company, where he supervised all legal, regulatory and compliance matters; as a senior vice president and deputy general counsel at CBRE Group, an NYSE-listed Fortune 500 real-estate-services company, where he supervised its M&A and strategic investment, securities and SEC reporting, capital markets and corporate governance matters; as a senior counsel in CBRE Group's global investment management arm; as a senior counsel at New York-based hedge fund TPG-Axon Capital; and as an M&A lawyer in the New York headquarters of a large international law firm.
