Bio

Jason James is a litigator, focusing primarily in the areas of complex commercial and business tort litigation, construction litigation, and dispute resolution. Jason's litigation practice focuses primarily in the areas of complex commercial and business litigation, construction litigation, and dispute resolution. He has successfully litigated complex commercial disputes for his clients involving misappropriation of trade secrets and unfair and deceptive trade practice cases involving multi-million dollar claims. His trade secrets and unfair competition practice involves competiting businesses and covenants not to compete, as well as claims against rogue employees. Jason also represents international clients in commercial disputes throughout the Southeast. In his construction practice, Jason represents design professionals, general contractors, subcontractors, and material suppliers, as well as owners and developers in disputes ranging from defect and delay claims, performance issues, wrongful termination claims, and liability disputes. In his dispute resolution practice, Jason helps parties work together to resolve their disputes prior to trial, and often prior to suit being filed. Certified by the NC Dispute Resolution Commission to conduct Superior Court mediations since 2008, he has mediated hundreds of cases in both state and federal court proceedings, and regularly serves as an arbitrator. Jason has been listed in Business North Carolina Magazine's "Legal Elite" in the areas of business litigation and construction law. He has also been named by North Carolina Super Lawyers magazine to the list of Top 25 attorneys in Charlotte and Top 100 attorneys in North Carolina. Jason firmly believes in the importance of giving back to both the legal community and the greater Charlotte community. He has a long history of service to both the Mecklenburg County Bar and North Carolina Bar Association. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Mecklenburg County Bar Litigation Section as well as the Professionalism, Lawyer Life and Culture Committee. He is currently a member of the North Carolina Bar Association’s Litigation Section Council and also serves as the liaison to the Dispute Resolution Section’s Collaborative Law Committee, a committee that is committed to bringing collaborative law to civil litigation as an ADR option for resolving construction, business, and civil disputes in general. Jason’s history of service to the greater Charlotte community includes serving on the Board of the ACE Mentor Program and participation in the Cystic Fibrosis Standout Charlotte program. Jason is a North Carolina native from High Point. His wife Laura grew up in Mississippi, and the two met in Charlotte. It is undisputed that his wife is the artistic one in the family and is best known as the creative genius behind Laura James Jewelry. They have a 3 year old daughter, Lila, who runs their house along with their two “hypo-allergenic” dogs (his wife tells him that they are “hypo-allergenic”). At the end of 2012, Jason learned to swim, bought a bike (now several), and slowly ran into the sport of triathlon. Having completed a number of half-iron and shorter distance triathlons in the last 3 years, he now calls himself a long course triathlete. In addition to spending time with his family, he has a passion for all things outdoors as well as Mississippi Delta Hot Tamales.
