Matt Eby Bio

Matt Eby is the Founder and Managing Partner of Seawall Capital LLC. Matt oversees all investing activities and operations of the firm. He has spent 18 total years investing across the capital structure and liquidity spectrum in a range of industries, including consumer goods & services, outdoor recreation, fitness & hospitality, tech-enabled goods & services, and real estate. In addition, Matt is currently Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Tengram Capital Partners, a consumer private equity firm formed to invest in consumer brands. His responsibilities there include managing the investments of Tengram’s portfolio and the daily activities of the firm. Matt is the Chairman of the Board of Kent Watersports, the leader in the watersports accessory market. He also serves as Chairman of El Cap Holdings, the largest climbing gym network in the United States, and Lime Crime, a digitally native color cosmetics and hair care brand. Matt is also a member of the board of directors of Algenist, RéVive, and Cos Bar and Tailwind Acquisition Corporation (Ticker: TWND). In the past he has served as Chairman of Tengram former portfolio companies NEST Fragrances and DevaCurl. Prior to founding Tengram, Matt was the founder and Chief Investment Officer of JAWS Estates Capital, the private investment office of Barry Sternlicht and the Sternlicht family. During his tenure at JAWS, he invested in and led numerous transactions including investments in Field & Stream, the original outdoor outfitter, which he sold to Dick’s Sporting Goods in 2012. In 2009, on behalf of Starwood Capital Group, Matt led the Initial Public Offering of Starwood Property Trust (Ticker: STWD), a mortgage REIT focused on commercial real estate properties. The highly successful transaction raised over $930 million, making it the 3rd largest REIT IPO in history. Prior to founding JAWS, he was an associate at Morgan Stanley. Before entering the investment industry, he served five years as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He served on the USS Sirocco (PC-6) and the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and was deployed to South America, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East. Matt is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and Harvard Business School. He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife Sharyn, and their two children. He is active in charities supporting military veterans and their families. He enjoys spending his weekends cheering from the sidelines of youth sporting events, running on the trails of Austin, and skiing down the slopes of Montana.
