Steve Waters Bio

Steve co-founded Compass Partners in 1996 and maintains an interest in the current structure. He has over 30 years of experience providing international strategic and financial advice to corporations, institutional investors, sovereign governments and private families. Steve’s main focus is Compass Partners Advisers which he established as an independent advisory firm in 2001. Steve was with Morgan Stanley from 1988 to 1996, serving as Co-Head of Mergers and Acquisitions from 1990 to 1992, and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley Europe from 1992 to 1996. Steve joined Morgan Stanley from Lehman Brothers, where he served as Co-Head of Mergers and Acquisitions from 1985 to 1988, having co-founded that department in 1977 and become a partner in 1980. Steve was an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1974, serving aboard three destroyers. Steve graduated with honors, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Harvard College. He was a Baker Scholar at Harvard Business School.
