Helen joined AIIM in 2013 and was appointed Chief Operating Officer in October 2022. Prior to that Helen was an Investment Director in the SADC team responsible for identifying, analysing and assessing investment opportunities, as well as the execution, performance monitoring and realisation of investments. Helen is a director of several renewable energy companies in the AIIM portfolio. Helen has extensive experience in the energy industry and has developed and arranged the debt and equity financing for a number of energy projects, including the Umoya Energy Wind Farm in South Africa and the Kipeto Wind Farm in Kenya. Recently she has overseen the refinancing of the senior debt across several of the South African renewable energy projects in the portfolio. Helen’s previous experience involved managing investments in renewable energy projects in the UK. Helen worked for Climate Change Capital (CCC) in London where she helped to build and manage a portfolio of renewable energy assets totalling over 50MW for their GBP60 million renewable energy infrastructure fund. Prior to joining CCC, Helen was at Barclays Capital where she was responsible for the P&L reporting of the European electricity trading desk. Prior to joining AIIM, Helen led the project investment team which successfully bid the Umoya Energy wind farm into round one of South Africa’s REIPPP Programme. Helen holds a Bachelor of Social Science Honours degree from the University of Birmingham, UK, and is an ICAEW qualified Chartered Accountant.
