Rick joined the Private Equity industry after university, attracted by its role in creating and building businesses. In 1993, he relocated to Uganda to take up a job with Actis’ predecessor firm, CDC after six enjoyable years at investment firm 3i based in the UK. He then moved to Zimbabwe for five years, Southeast Asia for seven years and Egypt for five years. He later relocated to London and took on responsibility for Private Equity operations in Asia before becoming Head of Private Equity. The reason he has stayed so long? He immediately cites the people; the soul within Actis and the sense of purpose which means collectively we are trying to achieve something over and above just making money. Rick holds a first class honours degree in economics from Exeter University.
