Steve Nelson is a Managing Director and Co-Head of D.A. Davidson & Co.’s Midwestern Financial Institutions Practice. Steve is actively involved in structuring and negotiating mergers and acquisitions, FDIC assisted transactions, and advising on branch acquisitions and divestitures for his banking clientele. He also provides assistance to banks on various capital raising alternatives including private and public offerings of common, convertible and preferred equity, and senior and subordinated debt. Steve actively engages with banks on strategic planning, stock repurchases and non-depository acquisitions. Throughout his 25-year career, Steve has successfully advised private held and public traded financial institutions in the Midwest on over 150 M&A and capital raising transactions. Prior to joining D.A. Davidson, Steve was a Partner and Managing Director at Hovde Financial, an investment banking firm focused on financial institutions. Prior to joining Hovde, he was a member of the Financial Institutions Group at The Chicago Corporation where he focused on strategic planning, mergers and acquisitions and public offerings of equity and debt for banks in the Midwest. Steve holds an MBA from Northwestern University’s J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree from Brown University. He is also licensed as a registered representative with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Steve formerly served on the board of directors of a publicly traded banking institution in the Chicago area.
