Mahmoud began his career in banking in 1977, when he joined Arab African International Bank (AAIB), rising to become Deputy General Manager and Group Treasurer before leaving after a 20-year run to join HSBC Securities Egypt, where he was Managing Director. Mahmoud was later Vice Chairman of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) from 2004 until June 2007. An elected member of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), he is also Honorary Chairman of both the Cairo FOREX Association and the INTERARAB CAMBIST Association. Mahmoud’s track record includes establishing and managing the first international dealing room in Egypt as well as the first international securities brokerage house in Egypt, which he led to become the third-ranked firm in the business. Throughout his career, he has participated in training initiatives at HSBC London, UBS London, JP Morgan, Marine Midland Bank London, Merrill Lynch London and Al-BAAB Bahrain. A lifelong supporter of Al-Ahly, Mahmoud is a passionate supporter of the privatization of Egyptian sports clubs.
