Stephen Moon is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Private Equity Performance Improvement team in London. He brings 22 years of experience in performance improvement and restructuring. His primary areas of concentration are operational transformation, post-acquisition value creation, lean improvements and interim management. Mr. Moon has worked with clients across a range of industries in private equity including manufacturing, engineering, automotive, capital goods, medical devices and public sector outsourcing. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Moon was an Operating Partner at Aurelius Equity Opportunities, where he recently served as the Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) in a book wholesaler, leading a team that managed carve-out, performance improvement, dramatic lead-time reductions, and sales and operations planning improvements for Amazon. Other positions include a carve-out of the UK probation service from the public sector into private ownership under Aurelius. This included leading a transformation merging 176 offices into a reduced footprint of 110, deploying a new IT platform, and delivering cost reductions in front-line operations, IT, and SG&A. Mr. Moon is known for quickly getting to the core issues, having a strong data led approach, and bringing speed during implementations. His hands-on leadership style brings projects to life during 100-day plans and enables rapid transformation under extreme cash and time pressure. Prior to joining Aurelius, Mr. Moon led the restructuring of a medical device manufacturer as the CRO acting for a bank. After stabilizing the business and repaying bank debts in full, he was appointed as the CEO by its private equity owner. The business was successfully turned around and sold to Goldman Sachs in 2016. Earlier experience in Mr. Moon’s career include running an independent turnaround and operational advisory practice, more than 35 interim roles, acting for bank work-out teams, and senior management positions in automotive, aerospace, manufacturing and engineering businesses. Mr. Moon earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and manufacturing systems from the University of Bradford. He is a Chartered Engineer (C.Eng), Whitworth Scholar (Wh Sch), Member of the Institute for Turnaround (MIFT), Member of the Institute for Mechanical Engineers (MIMechE), and a Member of the Institute of Directors (MIoD). A British national, Mr. Moon is fluent in English and is a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma.
