Richard Chen is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal’s Transaction Advisory Group in Asia. Mr. Chen specializes in accounting and financial analysis for both buy-side and sell-side transaction matters for private equity firms and strategic buyers. He brings more than 15 years of transaction and audit experience from across a range of industries including private equity, consumer goods and retail, industrial products and services, transportation and logistics, energy and resources, software and services, media and semiconductors. Mr. Chen has advised clients on more than 100 due diligence projects for leading corporations and private equity firms. He has extensive cross-border experience, which includes transactions in China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Korea, Finland, Sweden, the United States and Canada. Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Chen was at KPMG in both their transaction advisory and audit practices. In 2010 he was seconded to China for several years to work on several U.S. / China cross-border transactions for his U.S. clients. Mr. Chen has worked on several notable transactions in Asia, including Platinum Equity’s delisting and acquisition of Fischer Tech, a SGX listed plastic injection molding business with operations in China and throughout Southeast Asia and Platinum Equity’s acquisition of two business units from Broadway Industrial Group, a SGX listed precision engineering and foam packaging business with operations in China and throughout Southeast Asia. Additionally, Mr. Chen was involved with Clearvue Partners and Verlinvest’s minority investment in Yi Yao Wang, a leading online pharmacy platform based in China, a leading Southeast Asian sovereign wealth fund’s investment in a high-end private medical clinic group based in Hong Kong and Sailing Capital and the Sanpower Group’s acquisition of Brookstone, a U.S. based lifestyle product retailer. During his time in audit, Mr. Chen served in various capacities, including roles as a supervising senior auditor for several large, publicly traded companies in the software and retail/consumer electronics sector. Mr. Chen was also involved in the implementation and roll-out of Sarbanes-Oxley 404 audit procedures at these audit clients. Mr. Chen earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley. He is a Certified Public Accountant registered in California and a member of the AICPA and California Society of CPA’s. A U.S. citizen, Mr. Chen has been based in Asia since 2011.
