Jeffrey Friesen defends and prosecutes complex commercial disputes – claims relating to intellectual property, contracts, securities, antitrust, product liability, employment, and fraud matters involving U.S. and global companies – in U.S. federal and state courts. He defends clients in bet-the-company contractual disputes. He litigates financial industry employment and termination disputes on behalf of senior executives and employers alike. He represents clients in government investigations. And he approaches each case with the same commitment: provide his clients with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that he’s protecting their best interests, in the courtroom and at the negotiating table. Clients count on Jeff’s dedication and responsiveness to meeting their needs. A former litigator with Cravath, Swaine & Moore, for many years Jeff has represented one of the world’s leading telecommunications companies in litigation and governmental investigations, developing an in-depth understanding of matters related to standard-essential patents and commitments related to those patents, including FRAND commitments to the European Telecommunications Standards Institute and other standard development organizations. In addition to his extensive litigation skills and experience, Jeff has become the go-to lawyer for clients when questions of attorney-client privilege arise, leading privilege reviews for document production in litigation matters when necessary. He also represents a significant number of third-party subpoena recipients in large litigations, and he has represented a client before the Commissioner of Baseball. While in college earning a degree in Political Science, Jeff interned in the Office of the Prime Minister of Canada for two summers. He is the recipient of the New York City Bar Association’s Thurgood Marshall Award, which he received for his successful pro bono representation of an individual sentenced to death in Lockett v. Anderson 230 F.3d 695 (5th Cir. 2000).
