Douglas Sbertoli has nearly 30 years of high-level experience representing clients in corporate and public finance matters and a host of other areas. Doug has advised public and private companies through corporate governance and crisis management matters, restructuring initiatives, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, regulatory compliance responsibilities, securities offerings, innovative capital market transactions, public-private partnerships and other business initiatives. He has worked extensively with capital market players, such as investment bankers, private equity groups and financial institutions, governmental units, health care companies and other publicly and privately held organizations in many different business sectors. As a member of our P3 team, Doug assists companies and municipalities pursuing numerous types of public-private projects, including from proposals involving the Virginia Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act of 2002 (PPEA). Prior to joining Williams Mullen, Doug served as the executive vice president and general counsel for a prominent health care company. Before that, he was a partner at a national law firm based in Richmond, where he led the Corporate/Public Finance Group for almost 20 years. Doug has served as bond counsel, borrower’s counsel and underwriter’s counsel for tax-exempt and taxable financings of virtually all varieties. He has extensive experience working with investment bankers, financial institutions, institutional investors, government entities and private sector businesses in the establishment of conventional and innovative financing arrangements. Doug has always been active in the community. He currently serves as chairman of the board of directors for the Watkins Centre Community Development Authority, and he was a founder, board member and basketball director at the Weaver Athletic Association and a delegate for the Lead Virginia Class of 2010. In addition, he was a trade mission ambassador for the Greater Richmond partnership on numerous business development trips abroad, including in the United Kingdom, Scandinavia and Germany. He is listed in The Best Lawyers in America© for Corporate Law (2011-present). Doug received his Juris Doctor degree from the William & Mary Law School and his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia.
