Bio

Phil Riman is the principal founding Partner of White & Black. He qualified as a Solicitor in 1996 and has specialised in technology, venture capital and corporate law ever since. Phil is ranked as one of the top 25 Venture Capital Lawyers in the UK and as ‘Band 1’ for Corporate/M&A law (2016, Thames Valley). He is a ‘Top Ranked Individual’ in Chambers 2016 and was named Venture Capital Lawyer of the Year in the GLE Awards 2014-15. He is also a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ in the Legal 500 2015. His clients include Highland Capital, Grupo Arcano, Borderlinx and Matchesfashion.com. Previously Phil worked at 3i, the global private equity group, supporting both its UK and US businesses and before that for Edge Ellison (now Squire Patton Boggs). At 3i, he advised on hundreds of deals including the merger of Kingston SCL with Telesens AG, the flotation of Weston Medical and the sale of Bradford Particle Design plc to Inhale Therapeutic Systems Inc. Phil’s work at White & Black includes the merger of Brakes & Fresh Direct, the buy-out of Musto Clothing Group, the acquisition of Zarlink’s semiconductor fabrication business; the sale of Basildon Chemicals to KCC Corporation; Grupo Arcano’s investment in Cambridge Quantum Computing and the flotation of Focusrite Audio Engineering. His non-transactional work includes advising Virgin Active on global software deployment, Isklar AG on numerous commercial agreements and Borderlinx SA on a numerous international commercial contracts. Phil is also a school governor, a non-executive director of a medical technology company, a proud father of two strapping boys and a long suffering supporter of Liverpool football club.
