John Allen is a founding Partner of White & Black. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, technology law, venture capital and private equity transactions. He also advises on constitutional matters, board governance and directors’ duties. John is a ‘Ranked Individual’ in Chambers 2016 and a ‘Recommended Lawyer’ in the Legal 500 2016. John’s recent experience includes Gigaclear’s institutional fund-raising from the CF Woodford Equity Income Fund, e-Commera’s fund-raising from Dawn Capital and others, the merger of Brakes and Fresh Direct, Highland Capital and Scottish Equity Partners’ investment in Matches Fashion, a number of UK acquisitions for Barentz B.V. and the sale of Netvibes to Dassault Systemes. John qualified as a Solicitor in 1998 and has specialised in technology and corporate law ever since. He trained and worked in London, focusing primarily on mid-market M&A transactions within the technology and media industries, before becoming a partner in the corporate team at an Oxford-based firm advising a variety of technology-based businesses (notably in the software and IT services sectors). John’s first degree is in law and he also holds a master’s degree in German law from the Universität Trier.
