Bio

Daniel Weinhold is the managing partner of Weinhold Legal. He has experience in both domestic and international commercial law. Apart from his general commercial law practice, he is focused on providing legal services in the area of mergers and acquisitions and banking and financial services. Daniel also has extensive experience with restructurings and transformations and has an impressive litigation and arbitration record, in particular representation related to commercial and investment disputes and tax issues. He has been involved in work for major international, Czech and Slovak institutions and companies including among others: ENEL, Vivendi/Veolia, ExxonMobil, Goldman Sachs, Taisei, Société Générale/KB, ChevronTexaco, General Electric, KBC/ČSOB , Citibank, UniCredit, Hachette, SABMiller/Pilsner Urquell, CME, Vodafone, Skanska, Agip, Mitsui, Vinci/Eurovia, Deutsche Bahn, News Corporation, Erste Bank/ČS, Czech Post, BNP, Czech Coal, Textron and the Ministries of Defence (Czech), Finance (Czech and Slovak), Transportation (Czech), Interior (Czech), Environment (Czech). Daniel is the author of the book “Statute barring and time limitation in private law” published by C.H.Beck, Prague, 2015, the author of the book “Statute barring and time limitation in commercial legal relationships” published by C.H.Beck, Prague, 2000 (2nd ed. 2002, 3rd ed. 2009), the co-author of the Large Commentary on the New Czech Civil Code published by Leges, Prague, 2014, was the co-author of Czech sections of the International Comparative Legal Guides to Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Governance, chapter Security instruments under Czech law, published by the Financier Worldwide’s Private Equity e-book, overview published under the Country Guide to Slovakia covering Securities & Banking, a publication of Complinet, a Thomson Reuters company.In addition to lecturing on various topics in commercial law, Daniel has contributed to various legislative initiatives. He is also the chair of the Expert Group of the Public Procurement Platform created in 2010 by the heads of all significant political parties, relevant public institutions and business associations, in an effort to increase the transparency and effectiveness of the public tender process. He is a member of the Advisory Board (Kolegium ministryně) of the Minister for Regional Development and a member of the Expert Group for Public Procurement of the Ministry for Regional Development. Daniel was a member of the former Takeover Panel for the Czech Securities Commission, a member of the Specialised Board of Appeal of the Minister of Finance, a member of the Advisory Board of the Minister of the Interior for combating corruption, a member of the Inter-Agency Coordination Board of the Ministry of the Interior for combating corruption. Daniel became the first ever holder of the AmCham Wings Award by the American Chamber of Commerce. He is recommended by the publisher Who’s Who Legal in the editions of The International Who´s Who of M&A and Governance Lawyers (2010, 2011, 2013 – 2019), Government Contracts Lawyers(2016-2020), Commercial Litigators (2012-2015), Banking Lawyers (2012 – 2014), Project Finance Lawyers (2012), and Private Funds Lawyers (2010). Since 2013 Daniel is recognised as an expert in the area of Corporate Law and Tax by Best Lawyers, the oldest and most respected peer review publication in the legal profession. Daniel was also ranked as an expert lawyer in Banking by The Legal Media Group Guides to the World´s Leading Lawyers (2017). In addition, he is mentioned among leading lawyers by Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, The Legal 500, PLC Which lawyer?, Expert Guides. Daniel was ranked as a runner-up in the categories of Banking and Finance for the Lawyer of the Year 2005 competition, and in the category of Financial and Banking Law and in the category of Commercial Law of the Lawyer of the Year 2007 competition, organized by epravo.cz under the patronage of the Czech Bar Association. Daniel graduated from the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague (JUDr. degree) and after further studies obtained his Ph.D. degree. He is a Czech qualified attorney at law, registered on the List of Attorneys kept by the Czech Bar Association (Česká advokátní komora) and is also a member of the Slovak Bar Association (Slovenská advokátní komora). Daniel speaks fluent English as well as his native Czech.
