Arthur Jay Schwartz is a Partner in the Corporate Practice of Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP. Mr. Schwartz formerly served as the Firm’s Managing Partner and Finance Partner. In his practice, Mr. Schwartz has particular expertise in mergers and acquisitions, finance, securities, commercial leasing and technology. Mr. Schwartz represents and advises clients in all types of mergers and acquisition transactions including “going private” and “leveraged buyout transactions,” representing both buyers, sellers and financing parties. He regularly consults with public and privately held clients on the effective use of capital structure to accomplish a variety of financing objectives. In addition, Mr. Schwartz has an active practice in business acquisition and divestiture transactions, especially where the transactions involved complex financing structure issues. He regularly represents borrowers and secured and unsecured lenders in connection with all types of financing transactions and public companies and underwriters in connection with public equity and debt offerings. Mr. Schwartz has extensive experience working with technology companies and in all aspects of their business, including organizational structure, financing and capital raising, mergers and acquisitions and public and private securities offerings. He has served on The University of North Carolina Jewish Studies Center Advisory Board from 2003 to 2010 and the Board of Trustees of the Atlanta Jewish Federation and its Endowment Fund Board from 1999 to 2008, as well as the Board of Visitors of Emory University from 2006 to 2009. From 1999 to 2002 he served on The Emory Law School Council. He is also a Past President of The Temple in Atlanta, where he was president from 2002 to 2004 and served as the Chairman of the Endowment Board of Trustees from 2013 to 2018. Mr. Schwartz has spoken at professional education seminars on small business and financing topics. Mr. Schwartz received his A.B. degree in History and Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1969. He received his J.D. degree from Emory University in 1972, where he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal honor fraternity.
