Luis Francisco González Parás joined Santos Elizondo in 1984 and has been partner of the firm since then. For more than 33 years, his practice has focused mainly on acting as advisor and mediator, nationally and internationally, in civil, commercial and family disputes, through judicial or extrajudicial channels. Luis has also advised clients throughout his career on various commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, and generally legal advice in corporate matters. Luis has advised many prominent families in Mexico to undergo corporate restructures, and tax and estate planning. Chambers & Partners has recognized Luis Gonzalez in consecutive years as a leading lawyer in commercial and corporate matters in Mexico. Some of his clients are: World Bank; AO Smith Corp.; Fitch Ratings Inc.; Grupo Cementos Mexicanos; Metalsa S.A.; Minco Pipe Inc., Milenium Hotel Group, Grupo Carza; Grupo Garza Ponce; Javer Group; Protexa Group, etc. He has participated as legal advisor in the following significant transactions, among others: (a) Acquisition of cement companies such as Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua; Grupo Cementos Mexicanos in the acquisition and financing of CitiBank-Citicorp, for US $120,000,000 million dollars for the acquisition of the Anahuac Group; (b) Issuance of Notes for US $30,000,000 million dollars from Pyosa S.A. of C.V.; (c) International Arbitration in Courts of Canada representing companies of Grupo Gentor S.A. in conflict with Telecom Italia for US $200,000,000 million dollars; (d) New York lawsuits against Don King Promotions representing a Mexican company for breach of contract; and (e) Arbitration in Los Angeles representing a Mexican company against Michael Jackson for breach of contract in Mexico. Luis González Parás has served as a member of the Board of Directors of business groups such as Grupo Cementos Chihuahua, S.A. of C.V.: Milenium Grupo Hotelero S.A. of C.V.; Grupo Lamosa S.A. of C.V.; Fomento Alimenticio S.A, Prodiesa, Constructora Stiva and Fitch Rating México. In 1981, Luis González worked in the New York offices of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton and from 1982 to 1984, he was the head of the legal department of Grupo Proeza, S.A. of C.V. Also, he has served as legal advisor of the Secretary of the Governing Body of Grupo Visa, S.A. of C.V and various national and international hotel companies. Luis González obtained his law degree in 1975 from the Law School of Universidad de Monterrey. In the years 1976 to 1979 he obtained a PhD in Law, Public Finances and Tax Regimes from the Université de Droit, d’Économie et Sciences Sociales de Paris (Sorbonne). In 1981, Luis González graduated from a Master’s in Comparative Law from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In addition to being a member of the Barra Mexicana, Colegio de Abogados, A.C. and of the Colegio de Abogados de Nuevo León, Mr. González Parás was a professor for more than 8 years at the Facultad Libre de Derecho de Monterrey (from 1983 to 1985) and at the Universidad de Monterrey (from 1985 to 1990).
