Carlos De la Garza has been a partner in Santos Elizondo since 1988. Since joining Santos Elizondo, his practice has focused mainly on corporate law, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, international business transactions and trusts and from 2008 has added to its professional practice, the legal implementation of family agreements (protocolo familiar). Dr. de la Garza has represented various foreign public and private companies that have acquired through the purchase of shares or assets of Mexican companies, mainly in the area of the auto parts industry, chemical products, maquila industry and logistics among others. He has also represented Mexican shareholders who have decided to sell their shares or assets to national or foreign third parties. Finally, in terms of the legal implementation of family agreements, he has given various conferences and advised various family businesses to adequately document their family agreements, seeking to give such agreements legal force. Dr. de la Garza has served as Director and Assistant Director of several areas of Grupo Industrial Alfa, S.A., as well as Legal Director of Hyl, the exporting division of Hylsa, S.A. From 1996 to 1997, he served as president of the National Association of Business Lawyers, Nuevo Leon Section. From 2004 to date, Dr. De la Garza has served as member of the board of the Family Business Center of the Universidad de Monterrey. He is currently secretary of the board of trustees of the Universidad de Monterrey and in 2016 he was invited as commencement speaker at the graduation ceremony of the students of the Universidad de Monterrey. In 1975, Dr. Carlos de la Garza graduated with a Law degree from the University of Monterrey. Subsequently, he completed a Masters of Law (LL.M.) at Georgetown University School of Law and finally completed a doctorate in the Faculté de Droit d’Economie et de Sciences Sociales, Paris University-Sorbonne in 1978.
