Bio

Neela Badami has been with the Firm since 2009. She works primarily in the areas of mergers & acquisitions, private equity & venture capital, banking and finance, TMT, general commercial contracts and public international law advisory. She has extensive experience in sectors such as fintech, e-commerce and information technology. Neela holds a B.A., B.L (Hons.) degree from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad (2005, Gold Medallist). While at NALSAR, Neela represented India at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition (2004). She holds an LL.M from the University of Michigan Law School, Ann Arbor, U.S.A (2008, Michigan Grotius Scholar). Prior to joining the Firm, Neela was an associate in the Capital Markets Practice Group at Amarchand Mangaldas, Mumbai. Neela has also worked as a Law Clerk at the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Netherlands (Legal Advisory Section, Office of the Prosecutor). Apart from practising law, Neela stays connected to academia through both writing and teaching engagements. Recently, she has taught a 1-credit elective course at her alma mater and one of India’s premier law schools, NALSAR, on ‘Private Equity and Venture Capital Transactions in India.’ She has advised the International Transactions Clinic’s members at the University of Michigan Law School on aspects of investment transactions in India. She has been published nationally and internationally. Her most recent publication, co-authored with Harish Narasappa is the “Entrepreneur’s Legal Guide to Business,” published by the Eastern Book Company. She is admitted to practice law in India. Neela’s hobbies include swimming, reading fiction and writing travelogues. She enjoys solving cryptic crosswords. Before taking up law, Neela was a competitive swimmer and has captained the Karnataka state women’s waterpolo team.
