Bio

Roderick Martin, SC is Head of RHTLaw Asia Litigation & Dispute Resolution Practice. He has been in active legal practice for more than four decades. His main areas of legal practice cover civil litigation, loan and security documentation including conveyancing, liquidations and receiverships, as well as admiralty and shipping. Roderick graduated from the University of Singapore in 1972 and started his career in the Singapore Legal Service as an Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court. After serving as a Magistrate and Registrar of the Subordinate Courts, he went on to serve eight years as a Registrar of the Supreme Court from 1978 to 1986. Roderick began his career in the private sector in 1986, where he was Senior Partner of Ramdas & Wong till 1992. He was Senior Partner at Martin & Partners from 1993 till early 2016, prior to his appointment at RHTLaw Asia. Roderick was involved in the legal academia in Singapore. He previously served as a part-time tutor and lecturer in the Law Faculty of the University of Singapore. He was also a lecturer and consultant in Civil Litigation as well as the co-ordinator and lecturer in Civil Procedure for the Practical Postgraduate Course. He presented several papers, including one on the Rules of Supreme Court (Amendment No. 2) at a seminar jointly organised by the Academy of Law and the Law Society in 1991. Other paper presentations he gave included “Advocacy in Interlocutory Applications” at a Legal Workshop for practitioners sponsored by the Law Society of Singapore, “Reciprocal Enforcement of Foreign Judgments” at the Asean Law Conference in Manila and the “Sentencing of Young Adult Offenders” at the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute of Crime Prevention and the Treatment of Offenders in Tokyo. On the social causes front, Roderick was a member of the Committee on the Aged, Ministry of Community Development for four years until 1998. He was also previously the Chairman of the Senior Citizenship Week in 1997. Roderick was appointed Senior Counsel on 7 January 2011.
