Andrew Chen Bio

Andrew Chen is a partner in the firm’s Corporate Transactional Group focusing on Intellectual Property procurement and licensing. Andrew regularly counsels start-up and later stage companies in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret law. He concentrates his practice in the areas of patent procurement before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and other foreign countries, and has extensive experience advising clients on the development and implementation of strategic patent portfolios, including conducting studies and rendering opinions regarding the validity and non-infringement of patents and product clearance. He has successfully prepared and prosecuted patent applications in the fields of chemistry, medical devices, biopharmaceuticals, nanotechnologies, diagnostic devices, casino gaming technology, automotive-related devices, mechanical devices, plumbing and bath fixtures, electronics, computer hardware and software, computer systems and networks, e-commerce, Internet-related technology and business methods. His experience is across various industries, primarily in life sciences, but also in the fields of electrical, computer and Internet technologies. In addition, Andrew also has represented clients in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation matters. Additionally, Andrew advises clients in a wide array of intellectual licensing matters, due diligence investigations and other commercial transactions in a wide array of industries, including digital marketing and media, internet retail, digital health, business services, entertainment and sports, beauty and healthcare, apparel, food and beverage, life sciences, medical devices, therapeutics, nanotechnologies, software, SaaS, AI and renewable energy. He also counsels clients in privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity matters in the context of mergers, acquisitions, services arrangements, and other complex commercial transactions. He also routinely drafts privacy policies and negotiates privacy and data security provisions of commercial agreements. Andrew has a passion for finding innovative yet practical solutions and brings to the table both a depth of experience in technology as well as an understanding of clients’ bottom-line needs. He greatly enjoys working with entrepreneurs and and start-up companies on their IP issues. He has been a guest lecturer at LLX, Loyola Law School’s Executed Education Program and General Assembly covering intellectual property law.
