Bio

Chadwick I. Buttell is a partner in the Corporate, Finance, Securities and Tax Law Practice Groups. He represents businesses, entrepreneurs and high-net worth individuals in a variety of business transactions and commercial matters, including business start-ups, mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, joint ventures, federal and state securities law matters (including private offerings of debt and equity securities), lending and financing transactions, federal income and transfer tax and other general commercial matters. Mr. Buttell also represents private equity and hedge fund sponsors and investors in connection with fund formations, securities offerings, investment decisions and tax, securities law and other regulatory and legal issues. In addition, he has significant experience representing real estate syndicators and investors. Also of particular note is Mr. Buttell's experience in federal tax matters, including in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, business reorganizations, joint venture and partnership transactions, executive compensation, business succession and estate planning and other tax planning strategies. Mr. Buttell is an adjunct professor in the Masters of Law (LL.M.) in Taxation program at Chicago-Kent College of Law where he teaches Partnership Taxation I, one of its required courses. He has also served as the Chair of the Chicago Bar Association's Federal Taxation Committee and the Partnership and Passthrough Entities Subcommittee. He frequently participates in comment projects submitted to the United States Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service regarding legislative and regulatory matters. He also lectures and writes on tax and other transactional law topics. Mr. Buttell attended Northwestern University where he received a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics. He received his J.D. with high honors at Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Society, and his M.B.A. from IIT Stuart School of Business. He subsequently received his Masters of Law (LL.M.) in Taxation from Chicago-Kent College of Law. Mr. Buttell was admitted to the Illinois State Bar as well as the Bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, in 1993. He is a member of the American and Chicago Bar Associations.
