Walter Cartin represents a diverse range of health care providers, including health systems (for-profit, not-for-profit, and governmental), nursing homes, multispecialty physician groups, direct primary care practices, pharmaceutical companies, management services organizations, insurance companies, and a variety of other entities focused on the provision of health care supplies and services. In addition to providing general corporate and operations counsel, he routinely represents clients in both litigation and transactions, with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions in the health care sector. Walt leads Parker Poe's Health Care Industry Team, which BTI Consulting Group and Chambers USA have ranked among the leading teams in the Southeast. BTI and Chambers develop their rankings using in-depth interviews with top legal decision-makers. In addition, Walt represents clients in state and local tax litigation. He has represented local governments and companies before South Carolina’s Administrative Law Court and Circuit Court. He has particular experience with property tax litigation, including all levels of appeal. Walt’s state and local tax practice is another example of his strength with administrative law issues, which are also a significant focus of his health care practice.
