Bio

William Malaier is the chair of the firm’s Business Group. His practice emphasizes bankruptcy and non-bankruptcy insolvency law, including the representation of both debtors and creditors in liquidations and reorganizations under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, appellate work, and representation of trustees in bankruptcy. He is an experienced litigator in state and federal courts and is familiar with principles of finance and restructuring. Bill’s practice also includes the representation of individual and corporate borrowers in connection with commercial lending transactions and workouts, including the documentation, negotiation, and closing of complex commercial loans. In that capacity, he serves as a member of OMW’s legal opinion committee. Bill was recently elected by his peers to the Executive Board of the Washington State Bar Association’s Creditor-Debtor Section, and in that capacity serves as the Executive Board’s Chair, and the Chair of the Grants Subcommittee. He was formerly elected Chair of the King County Bar Association’s Bankruptcy Section. In addition, Bill serves on the Board of Directors of the Consumer Education and Training Services (C.E.N.T.S. Program), a non-profit organization dedicated to education of students and senior citizens in matters related to personal finance and debt. Bill received a B.A., summa cum laude, from Providence College in 2000 and his J.D. from University of Arizona in 2003. He is a frequent speaker at seminars on bankruptcy law, and recently co-edited the Bankruptcy chapters of the Washington State Bar Association’s Family Law Deskbook and the Washington State Bar Association’s Partnership Deskbook.

Education
