Bio

Bob Haken is a corporate finance lawyer based in London. As a partner in the corporate and regulatory insurance team, Bob focuses on discontinued insurance businesses, restructurings and regulation. He also has a growing practice in the Lloyd's market. Bob is well known for complex and high profile transactions, including the recent acquisition of LV by Bain Capital; the acquisition by RiverStone of Skuld syndicate 1897; and advising the independent expert to the Lloyd's Brexit Part 7 transfer. His main client relationship responsibilities are for AXA, AIG, MS Amlin, a major UK motor insurer and a number of run-off aggregators. Bob spent nine months on secondment to the FSA, where he worked on the implementation of the Solvency II Directive, and remains at the forefront of developments relating to the Solvency II regime. He sits on the City of London Law Society Insurance Law Sub-committee and has contributed chapters on insurance to Oxford University Press's Brexit and Financial Regulation, on closing books of business to Edward Elgar's Research Handbook on International Insurance Law and Regulation and on authorisation to the Practitioner's Guide to the Regulation of Insurance. Bob has a unique ability of reducing the most complex of concepts to readily intelligible language for clients and colleagues alike. He was promoted to partner in 2012, which Legal500 described as a "boost to the regulatory side of the practice". He is a frequent speaker at industry events.
