David Sweet Bio

David Sweet is a graduate of Princeton University (A.B. 1958, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Harvard Law School (LL.B. 1961). Prior to joining McLaughlin & Stern, he had been a partner of Alston & Bird and its predecessor firm, Walter Conston, Alexander & Green. Mr. Sweet was counsel to the Committee on Housing of the New York State Assembly from 1977 to 1980 and thereafter served as special counsel to the minority leader of the New York State Senate on housing matters. He formerly served as a trustee and treasurer of the New York State Interest on Lawyers Account Fund (IOLA), which is a major source of funding for civil legal services in New York State. He has also served as a member of the Board of the State of New York Mortgage Agency (SONYMA). Mr. Sweet handles primarily corporate and real estate matters. His work includes mergers, acquisitions and financing in the corporate area and leasing, purchases and sales of commercial and residential properties in the real estate area. He is the co-author of numerous articles on cooperative and condominium conversions which have appeared in the New York Law Journal. He has also contributed to the Fordham Urban Law Journal on the subject of Mitchell Lama buyouts. Mr. Sweet was a vice president and a trustee of the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. He is a director of the Citizens Housing & Planning Council.
