Bio

It gives me great satisfaction to clean up legal and businesses messes, solve puzzles, and help people and organizations achieve their goals. While I have a cordial and easy-going personality, I take my professional obligations very seriously and bring a high degree of intellectual curiosity to the issues faced by my clients. I also work diligently to stay current on important topics, and clients seem to appreciate my ability to take in and evaluate information, form opinions, and then express them in a way that’s articulate and helpful. In his wide-ranging regional, national, and international practice, Charles Adams counsels clients in transactions and represents financial institutions in matters relating to commercial real estate, troubled debt restructuring, and finance. Drawing on more than three decades of experience helping businesses with their transactions and operations, Charles advises organizations with foreclosures and the recovery, sale, or divestiture of assets. He also frequently assists clients in the formation, governance, financing, operation, and sale of domestic and overseas private companies. His international work tends to be inbound for companies and manufacturers founded or headquartered in other parts of the world that are coming to Texas or other states to expand their business opportunities. Recognized by Martindale Hubbell as an AV Preeminent® Peer Review Rated lawyer, Charles has built a reputation for being an extremely knowledgeable and reliable practitioner who exhibits sound judgment and acts as a calming presence during the execution of complicated or contentious transactions. Putting himself in the shoes of his clients – particularly those based outside the United States – he is able to explain and guide businesses in the complex legal aspects and the particulars of the marketplace they’re looking to enter. As a counselor who develops and maintains client confidence, he can help smooth out the paths for these new ventures and help companies make salient decisions at the proper times. Previously in his career, Charles served as Senior Vice President and Assistant General Counsel for a large bank holding company and primary counsel for a transaction involving the transfer of a $13 billion portfolio of securities and servicing rights. Additionally, he was counsel and legal advisor to the liquidating trust resulting from the Chapter 11 bankruptcy of a Texas-based bank holding company. These experiences helped Charles gain valuable insight into how bankers and lenders think and to determine when potential solutions to financial institution-related problems are likely or unlikely to help resolve matters.
