Alex Hutchens is head of the firm’s Technology, Media and Telecommunications group, and practices in telecommunications, IT, e-commerce, consumer protection and data protection law. He is a leading lawyer in emerging areas such as cloud computing, machine to machine (M2M)/IOT technology and big data projects. He also has significant experience in market competition and consumer protection issues, licensing and regulatory access, procurement and data protection and privacy law. Alex acts on large transactions, such as major IT procurements and telecommunications services agreements, and also provides ongoing advisory services. His clients include a broad range of listed and unlisted entities, including telecommunications providers, software and IT vendors, financial services organisations, airlines and resource and utility companies, as well as clients in the public sector. Alex has spent a number of years working in-house with various clients, including two-years as in-house lawyer for a national telecommunications carrier, advising on consumer product launches, commercial supply agreements, competition and consumer protection law compliance and privacy issues, and as IT counsel for a listed airline.
