R. Graham Phoenix founded and leads the firm's Bankruptcy, Insolvency & Restructuring Group and also practices Corporate/Commercial law. He is equally at home representing clients in the courtroom as well as the boardroom. In Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Restructuring scenarios, Graham's experience spans all sectors of business and industry. He represents and advises clients in the context of formal and informal turnarounds, re-financings, reorganizations, distressed investment and sales, security enforcement and liquidations, as well as bankruptcies, receiverships and restructuring proceedings under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act, and other corporate/commercial statutes. Graham also has considerable cross-border experience. He has appeared before all levels of Court in Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as the US Bankruptcy Court. In the Corporate/Commercial space, Graham's experience is diverse, covering all manner of commercial transactions. He has proven himself a problem solver and a strategic partner to his clients, with a laser focus on his clients’ business. He has noted experience with mergers and acquisitions, commercial lending, and directors’ liability issues, in both distressed scenarios and conventional corporate/commercial transactions. He acts for businesses big and small, banks, investors, shareholders and entrepreneurs. Before joining the firm, Graham practiced for several years in the Toronto office of a leading international law firm and in-house as senior legal counsel for a Fortune 500 company's Canadian operations.
