Walter M. Craig, Jr. is a partner in the Newark office of Lewis Brisbois and a member of the Corporate Practice. His professional activities have been in the area of business finance, business development (through merger, acquisition and strategic relationships), capital formation, contract negotiations, and private investment structurings for clients. After beginning his legal career in the private practice of law, Mr. Craig served from 1985 until 1995 as general counsel and chief operating officer of a New York-based merchant bank. As general counsel, he handled contract negotiations for the bank’s portfolio companies; located, structured and negotiated bank relationships for the portfolio companies; handled public company offerings and related activities; participated on merger and divestiture teams; served on a number of board of directors; and counseled ownership on a variety of issues related to development alternatives and related legal issues. From 1995 through 2009, Mr. Craig invested as a principal, held controlling ownership in, and managed a variety of asset-focused platforms in which sub-debt financing, credit through the sale of accounts receivable (factoring), and senior secured lines of credit were provided to companies across a variety of industries. He often worked with distressed assets and companies experiencing a transition (rapid expansion or contracting) at a time when traditional forms of capital were not readily available. Mr. Craig has over 25 years of experience and knowledge related to legal and business issues that are confronted by business owners, lenders, non-traditional capital providers, and investors. Mr. Craig has served on numerous corporate board of directors and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peddie School, Hightstown, New Jersey.
