Bio

Eric Maldoff represents numerous domestic and foreign corporations from start-ups to publicly traded multinationals in a wide range of commercial transactions and matters, in a number of domains including: transportation, manufacturing, health care, real estate, communications, entertainment, distribution and services. He is experienced in the creation and start-up of new organizations and institutions as well as in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships and investment funds. Eric has had extensive experience dealing with government and public authorities, and is frequently engaged for his strategic skills and ability to interface between the public and private sectors. He acts for private and public sector clients in such areas as health and social services, cultural industries, foreign investment, federal/provincial agreements and government negotiations. A skilled negotiator, he has served as the chief government negotiator in complex fields such as aboriginal affairs and sports and possesses substantial experience in such other public law areas as constitutional and import quota negotiations. He has represented Canada as Chief Federal Negotiator with: the Mohawks of Kanesatake; the Innu of Labrador and the Northwest Territory Métis Nation and has served as Chief Quebec Negotiator with the Kitigan Zibi Algonquin Community regarding the Eagle Forest. Eric has also represented private sector clients in negotiations with aboriginal communities. Eric has been deeply involved in the health sector. He was the founding chair of Canada Health Infoway and Vice-Chair of the Interim Governing Council, which created the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). He has served as Chair of the Executive Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the McGill University Health Centre, and he has served as chair of the Montreal Children’s Hospital. He is currently Chair of the Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation and Chair of the Old Brewery Mission, the largest homeless shelter in the Province of Quebec. Knowledgeable about the education sector, he has served as a member of the Board of Governors and Executive Committee of McGill University and as Chair of its Nominating and Governance Committee. Currently he is a member of the Finance Committee and a Governor Emeritus of the University. Eric has served as an advisor to the Government of Canada on constitutional, human resources and health matters and has also served as an advisor to the Government of Quebec on health matters. Eric has served as a director of Genesee & Wyoming Canada Inc., Cineplex Odeon Corporation and CF Cable TV Inc.
