Bio

James Hannah is an internationally recognized patent litigator who tries cases for high-tech companies seeking to obtain full value for their intellectual property or to defend against allegations of infringement. Recently, James and his team obtained the biggest patent judgment in history with a $2.65 billion to $3.25 billion damages award. James has also obtained a variety of defensive wins for his clients, including walk-away dismissals, judgments of no liability and global settlements with no payment exchanged. The intellectual property industry has consistently recognized James for his achievements. Law360 honored James as a lawyer “whose legal accomplishments belie [his] age,” the Daily Journal lauded him for several of the “largest and most significant verdicts” and other publications recognized James and his team for handling the most impactful and landmark cases in intellectual property. In addition to patent litigation, James regularly represents clients in IPR proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. His IPR practice is ranked as one of the most successful in the United States. He has obtained favorable results for both patent owners and petitioners, often used to strategically bolster an underlying District Court action. James also maintains an active patent, trademark and copyright procurement practice for a variety of clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to Silicon Valley startups. He is an active member of the intellectual property community and is frequently asked to provide CLE lectures for academic and industry leaders. He has also repeatedly been a guest lecturer on federal litigation at Stanford University School of Law.
