Steve Borgman is a registered patent attorney and his practice, which spans more than 30 years, includes counseling on a variety of intellectual property matters including mergers and acquisitions, license and technology agreements, and freedom-to-operate opinions. Steve also prosecutes patents and advises clients on their strategies for developing their patent portfolios. In addition to his transactional practice, Steve has handled a wide range of intellectual property litigation matters in a variety of industries including numerous patent cases in federal courts throughout the U.S. and before the International Trade Commission. Besides patent cases, Steve has experience with trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, and a wide variety of other types of litigation matters involving a broad range of technologies. He also has significant experience with the arbitration and mediation of intellectual property disputes. Prior to joining the firm, Steve was a partner in the Houston, Texas office of an international law firm where he focused his practice on intellectual property law. Steve is listed in the 2017 and 2018 editions of Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business as a recognized practitioner in the area of Intellectual Property. He was recognized as an "IP Star" in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 and also in 2017 and the three years immediately preceding by Managing Intellectual Property magazine. Steve was named a top patent litigation practitioner in 2017 and 2021 by IAM Patent 1000 – The World’s Leading Patent Practitioners.
