Bio

Jason Loring is a partner in the Corporate Practice Group and a member of the commercial transactions team. Jason co-leads the firm’s Privacy, Data Strategy, and Artificial Intelligence team. He advises clients on data privacy and protection, cybersecurity, data governance, breach response, data strategy, and artificial intelligence and machine learning, as well as strategic technology transactions and related commercial matters. Jason is an accomplished corporate and transactional lawyer who, after beginning his career in private legal practice, has held senior leadership positions at several market-leading, global providers of strategic business consulting, financial services, enterprise data, and business-process solutions. He focuses his practice on data privacy; data protection; cybersecurity; artificial intelligence adoption, deployment, and risk mitigation; privacy assessments and audits; data innovation; incident response and proactive incident readiness; vendor and outsourcing agreements and contracts; and related legal and regulatory matters. Jason’s unique blend of experience enables him to develop and deliver strategic solutions that help clients identify potential risks and exposure, implement robust global data privacy and artificial intelligence governance and compliance programs, work with federal and state regulators and law enforcement officials, and respond quickly and effectively to the legal, business, compliance, public relations, and other issues that arise in the context of data breaches, ransomware attacks, and other cybersecurity incidents. He represents a broad spectrum of international and domestic businesses and other end users that rely on technology solutions to achieve their business and organizational objectives. Among other clients, Jason represents publicly traded corporations and privately held companies, as well as government entities, not-for-profits, and other enterprises. Given the broad, cross-border reach of data privacy, data protection and cybersecurity issues, Jason provides forward-thinking counsel to clients on the myriad global data privacy and protection laws that affect businesses worldwide. These include the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulations (EU and UK GDPR); the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA); the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA); the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (EU AI Act); the EU e-Privacy Directive; the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework; the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography And Marketing Act (CAN-SPAM); the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA); the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA); the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA); US state breach notification laws; and new and proposed state privacy, data protection, and security laws and regulations such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA), and similar statutes across the country. Jason is a Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Certified Information Privacy Professional, United States (CIPP/US), certifications he earned from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). The IAPP has also bestowed on Jason the prestigious honor of being a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP). Prior to joining Jones Walker, Jason served as senior vice president, deputy chief legal officer, and global head of privacy and data protection for Vialto Partners, a strategic global consulting and business services firm focused on the tax, immigration, compensation, and other global mobility needs of national and multinational clients. Previously, he served as chief privacy and security counsel, Americas, for EY, a global consulting firm; as assistant general counsel, corporate services, for E*TRADE Financial Corporation; and as counsel, global enterprise solutions, for ADP. He began his career in private practice in Atlanta.
